I’ve been lucky enough to do some interesting travel lately. Leaving home for any new latitude or longitude always gets the creative juices flowing.
I started the month by going to Orange Beach, AL. with my sister and my dad. It’s a loaded place for us.
I went there every summer of my life for as long as I could remember up until my college years. A magical, hidden redneck oasis. We grew up spending endless hours on the bay, taking breaks to eat our weight in Blalock’s smoked tuna dip, and choreographing synchronized swimming performances.
Without our mom it feels different to say the least. But she was actually extremely present the whole time. We went to Doc’s on Canal to get her favorite spider burger (soft shell crab sandwich) & bushwackers and closed our trip by giving the Gulf of Mexico some of her ashes.
It’s been said a million times over, but the beach is a balm.

No matter how familiar you are with a place, you can always see it differently.
On the opposite end of the inspirational spectrum, my next travels took me to Mexico City. Somewhere I’ve never been and somewhere I’ve long wanted to go. From the manners of the dogs on every street corner to the deep reverence the city seems to have for a good Boulevard. Saturated color and generosity abound - it was very close to perfect and I can’t wait to go back.

Pro tips: travel with a lifelong best friend, eat as many churros as possible, take the bus, wait out the daily rain with a cozy hotel nap, treat yourself to a fancy dinner but also get a street quesadilla from Jenni’s.
In other news, SB Home has some exciting new projects in the works. Here are some initial inspiration mood boards to inform tone and project direction:
